Being an oily family means we depend on our oils and trust that they will do what we need them to. Frankincense is one of my favorite oils to use. I use it when diffusing other oils (smells amazeballs paired with lavender) and I use it when I’m soaking in a bath, because it helps my skin.
The smell, if you don’t know, is kind of earthy and woodsy all at the same time. My older daughter’s think it smells kind of like a barn. Which, in all honesty is fine by me, I love the smell of old barns. Don’t judge. This oil is referred to as a holy oil. You may have heard the term frankincense and myrrh, they have been mentioned in many songs and also in the bible.
What is frankincense? It’s a gum resin from a tree! The Young Living corporation is the first and only company allowed to distill and export Omani frankincense. The uses for this oil are seemingly endless!
I use this oil, to ground myself and to give me some mental clarity. As I said before I also use this in the bath to help sooth my skin if I have a flare up from my Hidradenitis Suppurativa. This oil is also said to have healing properties when it comes to some kinds of cancer. My grandmother had a spot on her hand, it would open, scab over, fall off, come back. She went to our local hospital and they told her it was melanoma.
I mixed her up some lavender and frankincense and she has been rubbing it on hand. In her case she has seen results! She is still going to follow through with her biopsy, as she should. Essential oils are awesome but they don’t ever replace medical advice.
Frankincense can be used directly on your skin to help soothe sore muscles. Putting a few drops in the bath also helps with this. This is possible because this oil isn’t what is called a “hot” oil. It’s neutral, so it won’t burn the hell out of you if you just dab some on your skin! As always though you should test it on a small area of skin before you slather yourself in it.
Some other suggested uses include:
- Help with acne (just dab some on the zit or pimple itself!)
- Diffuse during meditation
- Use when giving/receiving a massage
- May help lessen the appearance of stretch marks
- May help ease the symptoms of depression
- May help with anxiety.
Speaking from my personal experience, this little wonder bottle, has helped me out immensely. There is also a vitality version of frankincense, which is also made by Young living. This means you can take it internally for extra immune support!
If I haven’t mentioned it before, I am a young living distributor because I love their oils, and their harvesting methods. They only harvest what is needed and wait until the plant/tree is back to full crop before harvesting again.
