By nature, I’m a creature of habit. I love me some routines, predictability makes me feel calm. Routines are important to our family of 6. I will be totally honest though, I don’t really have a very solid morning routine, partly because I love sleep and love staying up late. On the rare occasion that I’m awake before any of the kids, I love it. I love the stillness, the quiet and the lack of tiny versions of myself demanding breakfast. It is my goal to be able to have a rock-solid morning routine eventually. Until then, I will continue to embrace my nightly routine.
Nightly routine
- Warm bath (I do this a few times a month)
- Low lighting
- Floss
- Brush teeth
- Rose water toner
- Hyaluronic treatment (used with a fancy ass roller)
- Night cream
- Eye cream
- Blue light blockers
- Essential oil diffuser or incense burner
- Journaling
- Reading
- Meditation
- Water (for when I wake up thirsty as hell and for after the bath)
I adhere to this on most nights of the week. Like a lot of people, this is when my anxiety really creeps in and makes itself comfy. Practicing these relaxing things keeps Mama happy. I get a much more restful sleep after doing this routine. The benefits aside from getting better sleep include, being more focused throughout the next day, a less crabby Mama Bear, and as mentioned before, less anxiety. The routine that I use is very simple and you can create one that fits your style.
