Have you ever had a long day and you can’t wait to slip into a nice warm bath? I have those days more often than not, especially lately with all of the extra stress in the world. As of late, I have been really digging the straight Epsom salt and warm water baths. There are different salts that potentially have different benefits. Epsom salt and pink Himalayan are my go-to because they are easily accessible and don’t break the bank.
Epsom salt is great for soothing achy bones and muscles. This one also helps to reduce swelling from bruises and sprains. It also said to help lower anxiety levels, help with PMS and soothe skin issues, at least it helps with my skin issues. Pretty awesome right? Pair with essential oils like lavender, chamomile and peppermint, and BAM! the bath becomes more luxurious.
I also use epsom salt when I want to take a detox bath. I sprinkle in some baking soda to balance the pH in the water. This tip is helpful if you live in an area that adds things like fluoride or chlorine to the water. While these are great for tooth health and killing harmful bacteria, they aren’t so awesome for the skin.
Epsom salt detox bath
- 1 cup epsom salt (or 1/2 cup for smaller tubs)
- 1/2 cup baking soda (1/4 cup for smaller tubs)
- 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oils.
Start by running warm water. I like it as warm as I can possibly stand it, that’s just me though! Mix the essential oils (if you’re chosing to use them) and salt together, add the baking soda and then sprinkle it in to the bath. Soak for 30-40 minutes, be careful when you stand up. A steamy detox bath could make you light headed. Hydrate with water after wards.
Pink Himalayan bath salt
- 1 cup Himalayan salt
- 10-15 drops of an essential oil or blend of your choice.
Follow the steps listed above. Depending on the size of the salt crystals they might not dissolve all the way, this leaving a pink residue when you drain the bath… That was more of a heads up than anything, it kind of freaked my kids out the first time they saw it.
While soaking in the bath, I try not to scroll through social media and try to catch up on reading or meditation. This takes the self-care aspect to a whole other level! If you want to try bath salts but don’t want to make your own check out my Etsy shop!
