Setting Goals and Intentions

Since it’s still January, it’s still relevant to talk about goals and intentions! This isn’t going to be a super long post, but if you’re like me, you’ve already hit the resolution wall. The first week of January (even the last week of December) I hit the ground running. And then slowed down to more of a trot, then a nice mall walk speed and then nothing.

I know me, I know this is usually what happens. But this time, I’m trying to get up and going again instead of just resting where I landed and making peace with it. Petering out early gives me a chance to re-evaluate why the goal or intention didn’t work and what I need to do to get back on track.

We all set goals for one thing or another, and not just during the new year. It’s easier around this time of year, because you know, new beginnings and all that. Some of us want to reach our ideal weight, which for me is a long term goal. Others want to save for a house or maybe spend more time with loved ones.

Accomplishing these goals is sometimes super easy, other times our resolve falters and before we know it we are back to our old habits. For some having the end result in mind helps you stay focused, for others it’s daily reminders. Personally I need to have the end game in mind along with reminders and gentle motivation. I have found that starting small and working my way up to bigger goals is also what works best for me.

When I was going to school, I started only taking 3 classes at one time. This was to get a feel for everything and get back in the swing of things. Eventually I moved up to four classes and then five classes, and I finished my Bachelor’s in half the time! Making sure I felt confident at each step before moving forward helped me not backslide. I also had the intention of being diligent and focused.

Not even going to lie, right now it feels as if I haven’t accomplished a big goal like that in a very long time. I have accomplished a lot of little goals, but nothing as significant as getting my Bachelor’s degree. So to get myself out of this slump, I’m taking a look at all of the grand goals I had in mind a few weeks ago, see where things went wrong, and make adjustments to make things easier.

My intentions were to be more present and mindful, and to be more calm. Something I’ve noticed is that I have been tending to get frustrated quickly. Not with others, but with myself. So to help this, one of my new intentions is to be forgiving and kind to myself and others. My goals were to work out, create a blogging schedule and grow my following.

The schedule was easy – so I was able to check that off. The working out – still haven’t done it – not even a little, and my following on Instagram is slowly growing.

Most of the time I feel like I don’t have T-I-M-E to do anything, especially working out, because its probably my least favorite thing to do. Until I get in the routine and then its my favorite thing! The excuse to not exercise is readily available because of the house work and doing things with the kiddos.

The thing is, I do have time! I just need to carve it out and get organized so I can see that there is time for working out, and doing the things I want with my kids and for my self…Yes, I see you over there bubble bath!

I have dug out the white boards and I am going to get my butt organized so I can get back on track for myself and for my family. Here are a few tips from my list of things to help me feel more organized and be more productive!
