Ahhh yes, the kids are returning to school. The nights are getting cooler. You see pumpkin spice in every direction. What you also see is those dust webs hanging from the ceiling, the piles of lake gear, yard toys scattered as far as they eye can see, coolers left out from the last BBQ you hosted and a carpet that has surely seen better days.
In our neck of the woods, summers are pretty mild, not to many days that break 90. This allows us to keep the windows open for that warm breeze and some fresh air. This also allows mass amounts of dust to blow on in. Living on a gravel road, it’s bound to happen. Fall around here is pretty great, but is generally super short. We are talking snow the day after Halloween!
We have all heard the term “spring cleaning”. It’s a time of rebirth, everything is waking up and blooming, so it kinda makes you want to clear all the cob webs and clutter from the holiday season, air everything out and prepare for the fun to be had outdoors. While we do participate in spring cleaning, I also like to do a deep fall cleaning… Winter cleaning.. and summer cleaning! Basically as a stay at home mom I feel like I clean all the things all the time!
Each cleaning session is necessary in it’s own right, but since it is quickly turning to fall, we are going to focus on that! Doing something like a deep clean can sound intimidating, but if you make a schedule and bribe older children and your significant other to help you, it won’t seem like such a big task to tackle!
Grab your bandanas, mop buckets, brooms, feather duster (do people still use those?) Your old rags, your preferred cleaners, crank your tunes and let’s do this!!
That is generally the list I use! I’m a green cleaner so I use products that aren’t harmful to my family or the environment! Theives cleaner is my favorite… Plus it can be used on almost anything annnnnd it smells like fall, so it really gets you in the mood! You can also really get into the dishwasher and run some vinegar and water through it! Plus Jacob got me this thing called an angry mama… It looks pretty hilarious, and it cleans the inside of your microwave for you… Um yes please! This is where he got my Angry MaMa Steam Cleaner.
A few words of encouragement, this list can seem pretty big and daunting but a schedule, will help, especially if you’re doing this all on your own! Break it down into areas, start at the top of the house and work down, meaning start upstairs and work your way down. Or start down and work your way up, which ever you prefer. I find cranking music up really moves things along. I typically start in the back of the house and move forward. We live in a one level. Or if you can create a cleaning schedule for a weekend it will breeze by! Remember to have fun and don’t get too stressed out!
